But, really, the dog comes first
Ned
If I invited you to dinner,
Sep 14th
would you come?
(Sorry for the terrible picture.) Yes, I made dog food again and yes, the pot is on the floor for Ned. And, yes, I pretty much only use that pot for dog food. Maybe corn.

That is Nickie in the corner.

x
She’s been hanging out on the canner – which we were using for water during Irene. And, yes, it is still on the floor. It may have water in it.
X
We lost her the other night. I was just starting to get worried:
x
She’s actually in the cabinet, behind closed doors, in the roasting pan.
Clearly …
Aug 27th
Clearly, it is cloudy.
(And windy and rainy.)
So, I’ll get on with the storm prep first; the inventory:
Candles – check
batteries – check
cats:

pooch:

x
water for drinking – check
water for flushing – check
yard pickup – check

Such a gloomy sky … back to storm prep;. I was reviewing the checklist:
Knitting – check
Stay safe, stay dry; and I’ll see you on the sunny side of Irene.

Do you remember when Ned was small?
Do you remember when he fit on the ledge of the screened in porch?

Raspberry Ice Cream, the Daily Dog and Actual Knitting Content
Jun 27th
This really bad picture
x
x
was really yummy raspberry granita. (Who knew taking pix of ice cream was so hard? Not only are you in a rush to eat it, but it reflects the light and melts while you’re “working”.)
We ran out of cream, otherwise we would have tried ice cream with swirls of fruit. (haarrummmph … all this ice cream producing uses more cream than I’m used to keeping in the house.)
x
And this is the best picture of Aurora today:
x
x
Ned gave her the pizza box. No, that is not a typo. The box was on the counter. Ned investigated. Ned decided he didn’t want it. Aurora was on the floor below him, gently panting to indicate that she’d like the box, if you know, he was done with it. Ned pushed it off the counter for Aurora. (It was a regular conversation between the two – fascinating and a bad thing to let happen. (Bad Human!) There’s no telling what Ned will do for her. The pizza box was relatively safe given that it was empty, but Aurora is still a diabetic and shouldn’t have too much of anything else they find. And we know she isn’t discriminating in her tastes.)

And this is Dude’s sleeve and a quarter:
x
x
It’s the Cobblestone Pullover by Jared Flood. In moments of recent stress, I couldn’t pay attention to the sleeve increasesd – so I off-loaded the stitches and started the body. He tried it on tonight. (What nonsense is this: I am trying to fit a sweater to a shrinking man – he’s dieting. (And I’m helping with all the ice cream experiments.))
x
xx
Anyway, given his reduction in size, all pressure on me to fit properly is off – aside from looking really short (the man is still tall!), I think it will fit nicely. And I can always block on the long side.
x
Yarn is Cascade Eco Wool, purchased for this purpose at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in May 2008. (It was marinating …) I casted on for the sleeves sometime in 2011.
I dub thee …
Jun 9th
Now here is an activity for a stressed out woman.
The gathering of herbs, the simple counting. The repetition (over, under, over, under … ), each schmoosing releasing the lovely scent of relaxing lavender.
Just delightful.

Mangofeet posted this 10 months ago – but my lavender had already passed. So I filed it away in the back of my brain and this year I was ready.
x
(Well, except for the emergency email to local friends looking for a ribbon stash so I didn’t have to go in the 104 degree heat to a nasty parking lot and a crowded mall, during rush hour.) (And the email to Mangofeet asking for the directions.) (yeah, Prepared, I was.)
x
x
The directions are excellent – except you probably need at least one cat for proper tension. (I’m not sure how Mangofeet managed. Much easier with a cat.)
x
x
The other cat was loafing in front of the fan. (Note: it is 8:30 p.m. and 94 degrees outside. I’d say “in the shade” but the sun is setting.)
x
x
Possibly she is too dumb to go into the basement during the day – where it is cooler when the A.C. is turned off while we aren’t home. Possibly.
x
x
Aurora had a good day. (I’m just over-whelmed with all the second guessing that I’m doing.)
And that is why making a lavender wand is the perfect activity for the evening.
