Procrastination, thy name is Bullwinkle
Instead of any of the myriad of work-related things I should be doing, I made bread:
(O.k. this is not a big deal except I purchased that book that everyone is talking about and I was completely uninspired, un-wow-ed, and unhappy with the outcomes (note use of plural; I tried more than a few recipes from the book). Ugh and phooey. So I’m freecycling the book and today I made real bread.) (NB: there are (knit) bloggers who are having some degree of success with this book. I seem to be the dissenting opinion on this one. Also, google “no knead bread recipe” for a variety of free versions (this second one is from a baker I trust (Rose Levy Beranbaum) and uses a slightly different technique, which I may have to try.))
It snowed.
We played.
(At the risk of me being used to it and you eagle-eyed purveyors of photo’s who will note every detail (especially when it is Aurora): We had a minor incident yesterday. She has two holes in her dog suit – at the base of her tail. In order to get a better view (and facilitate cleaning), a patch was shaved making it all very noticable and ugly. She is a bit achy and she’s on antibiotics and she’ll be fine. Not to minimize the injury, but the more stressful part was me trying to get to the vet in snowstorm (you know, they said dusting and we got 8 inches.) (Shut it. They can’t drive in the rain down here!)
So the voices in my head battled it out while my car slid on the slush … Darn! Does she need to go? Yes, she’s a diabetic. Can you put it off? No. Its a weekend. If not now, its the emergency room later. Darn. That’s a major highway, it’ll be cleared. Its not like they can stitch it … But it needs to be shaved so you can see. Darn that Samoyed fur. Where are your clippers? Janet has them. Darn. (Janet just had hip surgery.) Darn. Car won’t make it in snow. Darn. … Next week? … Next Week?!? I have work due. Due. Due and it will be an emergency if it gets infected. She’s a diabetic. It’ll get infected. Darn. )
This did not stop her from digging in the snow today:
I even did laundry. Twice. Now, really. I need to get some work done…

Sorry about the surprise trip to the vet in the “light dusting” of snow. Yuck. At least she gets to enjoy the snow so much!

I hope she’s healing well! Dog injuries are scary enough, but injuries to older dogs with health issues–yikes. I don’t approve.
I have been wondering about that miracle bread recipe nonsense. I haven’t tried it yet, but I really miss baking my own bread. Maybe I should crack and get a machine.
